Water treatment field

Water treatment includes raw water treatment, wastewater treatment and industrial water treatment, etc. In raw water treatment, it is used in combination with activated carbon, etc., to be used for the coagulation and clarification of suspended particles in drinking water. Using the organic flocculant acrylamide instead of inorganic flocculant can increase the water purification capacity by more than 20% without modifying the sedimentation tank; In wastewater treatment, using polyacrylamide can increase the utilization rate of water reuse and recycling, and can also be used for sludge dewatering; In industrial water treatment, it is used as an important formulation agent. The main functions of polyacrylamide in water treatment are:

(1) Reduce the dosage of flocculants. Under the premise of achieving the same water quality, polyacrylamide, as a coagulant aid, when used in combination with other flocculants, can significantly reduce the dosage of flocculants; (2) Improve water quality. In drinking water treatment and industrial wastewater treatment, when used in combination with inorganic flocculants, polyacrylamide can significantly improve water quality; (3) Increase the strength of flocs and sedimentation speed. The flocs formed by polyacrylamide have high strength and good sedimentation performance, thereby increasing the solid-liquid separation speed and facilitating sludge dewatering; (4) Corrosion and scale prevention in cooling systems. The use of polyacrylamide can greatly reduce the dosage of inorganic flocculants, thereby avoiding the deposition of inorganic substances on equipment surfaces, slowing down equipment corrosion and scaling.

Application in oil extraction

Polyacrylamide is a type of multifunctional oilfield chemical treatment agent, widely used in the drilling, cementing, completion, well repair, fracturing, acidizing, water injection, water blocking and profile adjustment, and tertiary oil recovery processes of oil extraction, especially in drilling, water blocking profile adjustment and tertiary oil recovery fields. The aqueous solution of polyacrylamide has a high viscosity, good thickening, flocculation and rheological regulation effects, and is used as a displacement agent and drilling mud regulator in oil extraction. In the later stage of oil extraction, to increase the crude oil recovery rate, China currently mainly promotes polymer displacement oil and ternary composite displacement oil technologies. By injecting polyacrylamide aqueous solution, the oil flow rate ratio is improved, increasing the content of crude oil in the produced substances. In tertiary oil recovery, adding polyacrylamide can increase the displacement capacity, avoid oil layer breakdown, and improve the recovery rate of oil bed extraction. China's petroleum industry is the largest user of polyacrylamide, and the technological progress of polyacrylamide promotes the development of China's petroleum industry. The demand of the petroleum industry accelerates the technological innovation and industry development of polyacrylamide.

Paper industry

Polyacrylamide is widely used as a retention agent, filter aid, uniformity agent, etc. in the paper industry to improve the quality of paper, the performance of slurry dewatering, the retention rate of fine fibers and fillers, reduce raw material consumption and environmental pollution, and be used as a dispersant to improve the uniformity of paper. The main application of polyacrylamide in the paper industry is in two aspects: one is to increase the retention rate of fillers, pigments, etc. to reduce the loss of raw materials and environmental pollution; the other is to increase the strength of paper. Adding polyacrylamide to the paper material can increase the retention rate of fine fibers and filler particles on the screen, accelerate the dewatering of the paper material. The mechanism of action of polyacrylamide is that the particles in the slurry are flocculated by electro-neutralization or bridging and retained on the filter cloth. The formation of flocs can also make the water in the slurry easier to filter out, reducing the loss of fibers in the clear water, reducing environmental pollution, and facilitating the efficiency of filtration and sedimentation equipment.

Medical materials

Polyacrylamide gel can be used as a non-coagulation agent for thrombin, surgical, raw material for contact lenses, outer layer coating material for microcapsules, and as a manufacturing material for high-quality hemostatic plugs, women's sanitary napkins and children's diapers. Polyacrylamide with a particle size ranging from several hundred micrometers to several micrometers can be used as chromatographic packing materials (such as gel chromatography column packing), effectively separating spherical proteins like cytochromes. It can also further perform protein desalting, concentration, etc. The polyacrylamide resin undergoes the Mannich reaction, introducing L-proline or L-hydroxyproline onto the amide side chain via a methylene bridge. When coordinated with copper ions, it forms a chiral ligand resin, which effectively splits a series of DL-amino acids. The chiral amino acids on the polyethyleneamine resin obtained through Hofmann degradation then form a complex with copper ions, serving as the stationary phase for ligand exchange chromatography, allowing for the effective splitting of a series of amino acids, with particularly good results for the splitting of aromatic amino acids. Due to the strong hydrophilicity of the backbone, the splitting time is significantly shortened. Other industries

The food industry uses it for clarifying sugarcane sugar and beet sugar syrup and extracting sugar from sugarcane juice through flotation method. It is also used in the clarification of enzyme preparation fermentation liquid for industrial use. It is also used for the recovery of feed protein, ensuring stable quality and good performance. The recovered protein powder has no adverse effects on the survival rate, weight gain and egg production of chickens. It is used in synthetic resin coatings, construction grouting materials for water blocking, building materials industry, improving the quality of cement, construction adhesives, joint filling and water-blocking agents, soil improvement, electroplating industry, dyeing industry, etc.
