Petroleum resin (Hydrocarbon Resin), with the CAS number 64742-16-1, refers to a thermoplastic oligomer obtained by using the carbon five (C5) or carbon nine (C9) fractions produced as by-products during the cracking of petroleum to produce ethylene, and through processes such as pre-treatment, polymerization, and distillation.

Product features

• Chemical stability: It has a low acid value, is resistant to water, acids, alkalis, ethanol and chemical corrosion, and maintains stable chemical properties.

• Solubility: Easily soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones, and ester organic solvents (such as toluene, acetone, ethyl acetate), but insoluble in water and low-molecular-weight alcohols.

• Compatibility: Good compatibility with various organic polymers, such as natural rubber, synthetic rubber (SBR, styrene-butadiene rubber), EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer), alkyd resin, phenolic resin, etc.

• Physical form: At room temperature, it is a brittle glassy solid. It becomes malleable upon heating and exhibits thermoplastic properties.

• Weather resistance: The weather resistance of the conventional non-hydrogenated products is average. However, the special grades that have undergone hydrogenation modification (such as partially hydrogenated C9) possess excellent resistance to yellowing and aging.
